Dragon*Con 2003

Over Labor Day weekend my husband, son(18mths), my Best friend, and her husband got to experience the annual craziness that is Dragon*con. This was not my first time at the con, but it was the first time that I was in costume. I have to admit that I was expecting the con to be taken over by the denizens of Middle Earth, so I was a little disappointed that there were not more of us. I did get the chance to meet many wonderful folk, and for most of the time we just called each other by their character's name. I was dressed up in Frodo style, but I became an honorary Pippin when I ran into Merry. I did enjoy wearing the wonderful fellowship cloak that my best friend Heather so graciously made for me(up til 5am the night before the con).

The Highlight of the weekend was meeting Mr. Brad Dourif. I have long been an admirer of his work, and I was thrilled when I learned he would be in LOTR. He was a pleasure to talk to, and he gave a wonderful panel talk. He comes across as a very down to earth person, and it makes it easy for his fans to talk to him. We also got the chance to meet the folks from TORN (TheOneRing.Net), and the Ringers:Lord of the Fans documentary group. They gave a great panel on Sunday morning that gave us a lot of insight in how the books have become part of our culture. We tried to attend most of the Tolkien Track during the weekend, but it never seemed like we had enough time to get back and forth. We are really looking forward to next year's con, and I plan on tweaking my costume some by then. I really enjoyed meeting everyone, and special hello's go out to: Merry, Sam, Rebecca, Patricia, Shannon and her mom, Maddy, Mariel, White Lady Eowyn, Aragorn from Chicago (wish we had gotten your e-mail address!), and Donna

Sam, Heather (Cloak Maker), Moi, and Merry
